We were hesitant in attempting to file formal complaints, because we knew nothing would ever be done, and the complaints would be ignored. When Chief Matthews willfully refused to perform his duties as a public safety officer of the county, abandoning a seventy-year-old woman in the woods in the middle of the night, this family member felt the act was too outrageously incompetent to ignore. She does after all have a heart condition, was less than twenty-five yards away, called out to him several times, and all he had to do was say, “Call the Jail”. She was not dissuaded from submitting her complaint, and she was not encouraged to do so either, as it remained her decision alone. When she did, and several weeks later contacted Mr. Townson about it, he decided he had the right to lambaste her over it, expressing an obvious disbelief, and insinuating that she was lying. He then took the opportunity tout his moral prowess, because he gave the children’s sermon every Sunday at church. We are not sure why he mentioned this, or what was the significance of it. Both members of our family have had formal theological education, one attended seminary in Boston, and the other attended formal lay ministerial training. We also knew the children’s sermon can be given by any member of the church, so there is no special significance to it.
A few days later, he responded to the inquiry stating that Chief Matthews was claiming he wasn’t even in the county that night. Attached to his email was an affidavit Doug had drummed up for the wrong date. The incident occurred on Friday evening around 10:30pm, but the affidavit only provided testimony to Chief Matthews’ whereabouts for Thursday evening and early Friday morning. There was at least twelve hours of time completely unaccounted for, which provided more than an abundant amount of time to return home from his Father-in-law’s cabin in Upson county (30 mins away). Regardless, of pointing out the absolute pointlessness of the affidavit, Sean refused to process the complaint, and trashed it.
When we reported for a second time, Chief Matthews was thoroughly documented from at least two different sources stealing time from the county more than 45 times, Mr. Townson refused to process the complaint and responded with a sarcastic remark basically claiming because Chief Matthews was on-call a few nights a week, just like every firefighter is on call a few nights a week, this granted Chief Matthews a special right to work whatever hours per week he wanted. For reference, our calculations from observations stated an average work week of only 24 hours. Which is less than half-time working hours for full-time wages. We will be providing this evidence in detail soon.
It’s one thing to not like us and think we are the scum of the earth, but when you begin to take out your frustration with us on our parents, you have gone too far and have completely lost all integrity. It is such an utterly classless and disgraceful move. If either of these two individuals, Mr. Townson or his bed buddy, Chief Matthews, were employed anywhere else, they would quickly find their crooked incompetence terminated. It boggles the mind how they even got the job to begin with. Surely, our county has better to offer its citizens.
